To the Sentinel:
I read a touching story about the financial problems faced by Oregon National Guard families. What a sad commentary that Oregon’s young men and women were sent to Iraq and placed in harm’s way on a daily basis while their families at home are faced with financial crisis.
The 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team is currently deployed in Iraq. The unit is headquartered in Portland so we will concentrate our efforts toward supporting them. There are roughly 3,500 soldiers in this brigade.
Write a check to the Knights of Columbus #3591, and donate as often as you can. Our hope is to continue this program until the Oregon troops are all home.
The amount really isn’t the important thing; the fact that you are giving what you can to support these families is important.
We will deposit your checks, then buy $25 Fred Meyer gift cards. Fred Meyer allows the receiver to purchase a variety of items — food, clothing, gasoline, etc. We will then deliver these cards to the 41st Armory located off Oak Street in Tigard.
Please mail your checks to me at:

Not everyone is required to support the war, but everyone needs to support the troops — that is their individual duty.
